Country Madness is special. We aim to bring youth and young adults from the Central and North Queensland Presbyteries of the Uniting Church together once a year for an excellent camp we call Country Madness. It is an ambitious but valuable goal.
We bring them together to connect with other young Christians from across our region, which is important. We have fun together, but we also spend lots of time talking about God, faith, Church, life, and we pray they will connect with God in a deep and fresh way. We believe Country Madness is important!
The normal means of paying the costs of a camp is to charge registrations fees: number of campers x registration fee = cost of camp.
Many Country Madness campers come from big distances, which involves levels of commitment and cost that most camps don’t involve. We therefore try to minimise the registration fee (in 2018 it was $50 per family) to make it that much easier to attend.
We need $7,000 to $10,000 each year to run Country Madness
Country Madness has so far cost roughly $7,000 each year (2017 and 2018), but we dream of extending the annual budget to $10,000. The gap between registrations and the cost of camp is donations. In 2017 this came entirely from within the camp leadership, and in 2018 there was one donation from outside the camp leadership.
In order for Country Madness to become financially viable in the longer term, and to remove financial dependency from particular leaders, we are seeking financially secure UCA people from our region who are passionate about youth and young adults in our church. If that is you, please consider becoming a Country Madness financial supporter. If you are from North Queensland and you prefer, consider becoming a Northern Madness financial supporter.
It will take all gifts, skills and commitment to change the story of young people in the country, and this is one way we are taking it on. Please also pray that God will bring wonderful blessings to our young people through Country Madness, Northern Madness, and Easter Madness (the SE Qld equivalent).
